Mission: Forest Protection

Save the forest: Project Wildwuchs
Rewilding right on our doorstep — forest protection is an important issue even here at home. Forests are enormous carbon stores and act like the planet’s natural air conditioners. Unfortunately, drought, pests, and intensive forestry have taken a heavy toll on them for many years.
That’s where Forest Gum comes in – let’s save the forest. We’ve created our own protected forest area just half an hour from Cologne, in the Oberberg district.
Our project is called Wildwuchs for a reason: across 100 hectares, we’re actively supporting natural reforestation. In this protected zone, plants, trees, and animals are reclaiming their habitat. A new, diverse ecosystem is emerging — one that strengthens biodiversity and has a lasting positive impact on our environment and climate.

Wildwuchs with purpose
Forest Gum goes Science
The foundation is based on the forest ecology concept developed by Prof. Pierre Ibisch and the Centre for Econics and Ecosystem Management in Eberswalde. They regularly analyse the forest’s ecosystem performance, allowing us to scientifically track its additional climate impact and gradual recovery — for example, how much water the forest retains in the soil or how much CO₂ is stored in its biomass.
Wildwuchs Stories
In our Wildwuchs Stories series, we meet forest experts, talk about healthy ecosystems and real forest protection – and show you how you can be part of it too.
